Birds in Art 2021

Birds in Art is an annual juried exhibition organized and graciously lent by the Leigh Yawkee Woodson Art Museum in Wausau, Wisconsin.

March 29 - May 12, 2022

Each year the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum of Wausau, WI organizes, juries, and curates the wonderful Birds in Art exhibition. They receive hundreds of entries from artists around the world, all hopeful of having their work included in the annual exhibition. The jurying committee chooses only about one hundred for inclusion in the main exhibition in Wausau each autumn. So, it is a rare and prestigious honor to be included in the exhibit and one bestowed only upon the finest artists’ works. After the exhibition closes in Wausau, the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum generously lends the exhibition to select art museums.

The Newington-Cropsey Foundation strives to promote representational artwork, particularly work that portrays the beauty of nature. Our permanent collection is comprised of work by Jasper F. Cropsey, an 19th century landscape artist. Birds in Art presents the opportunity to highlight the fact that many contemporary artists possess a love of nature, as did artists of the Hudson River School, of which Cropsey was a leading figure.

We are deeply appreciative of the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum for offering the Foundation an opportunity to participate in the travelling portion of the exhibit. Birds in Art 2021 is the twelfth instance of our presentation of exhibitions organized by the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum – hopefully, there will be many more to come!
